First up is Malajube with Trompe-Loeil which is a chaotic and uplifting pop LP from French speaking Montreal. If you can get into the french rock lyrics its actually got some nice musical moments with subtle and sophisticated chord progressions. Their friendship with Arcade Fire is evident on certain points on the record with the anthemic cresendo style going on. It also gets a bit Europop, like a more swinging Notwist or a more traditional rock version of Sigur Ros. Maybe a bit plodding in parts but enough good moments to keep the children happy.

One of the most anticipated bands at this year’s SXSW – the band travelled straight from Austin to France to support Arcade Fire at the band's personal request for their European tour. Naturally this band already rules in their Quebecoise hometown of Montréal, but very unnaturally (for a French speaking act)  - they were nominated for three Juno's (Canadian Brits) including best alternative album.
