JOANNA NEWSOM & THE YS STREET BAND! (good Springsteen gag)
Here she is again our helium filled heroine this time with a band in tow. Sounding medieval she skips over the harp and vocals like a sprite on fast forward. It really does capture a wonderful moment in time and I'm totally sucked into the period drama. Track 2 (which is a
different version of a song from her first album) drops the tempo and we're treated to a more refined
melancholy muse with male backing vocals. Enchanting, charming. Its the space the harp leaves that leaves you soothed. Phil's thinking its more coherent than the last album
(which was a big sprawling mess... P x) and its all sounding lovely and like the land of oz where
munchkins and witches play. long live the harp

What their label says...
A new Joanna Newsom record already? Don’t rub your eyes and ears just yet —it’s “just” an EP. But with all new arrangements and performances of two already-classic Joanna songs and the debut of a brand-new song, it’s a solidshort-play record at least — and another inspiring slice of Newsom at best! “Joanna Newsom and the Ys Street Band E.P.” was performed by Joanna’s road-tested band: Kevin Barker, NealMorgan, Dan Cantrell and Ryan Francesconi, with Joanna Newsom singing and playing her harp. Recorded and mixed inits entirety by Tim Green at The Plant Studios in Sausalito, California, “Joanna Newsom and the Ys Street Band E.P.” isan all-new, live and lively look into the world of one of today’s fastest-growing young artists.
