NURSE WITH WOUND were Excellent at this years ATP festival. They were the first artists to perform on the main stage and really set the atmosphere for the weekend. I can recall a barmaid being utterly confused by the performance "What's it supposed to be? It's just noise" it tickled me that did. 'An Awkward Pause' Special addition double CD is in this week and it begins with a track called 'Intravenous' which is a slow country tinged tune that's similar to Earth's recent output. Then it launches into 'Two Shave And A Shine' which they played at that gig. A real surprise, this is a funk bassline led tune featuring David Tibet from Current 93 on vocals with his wild lyrics and deranged voice. Then we get some super dark, atmospheric soundscapes constructed with electronics and all kinds of weird and wonderful instruments. 'Lunar Cement Sidewalk' is paranoia through sound then a melody creeps in and all of a sudden the darkness becomes light. Highly imaginative music that's got me wishing I had time to check out the second disc. Recommended on United Jnana.

What their label says...

*United Jnana are pleased to re-release one of the most popular albums in
the Nurse With Wound discography.
*Originally released in 1999, An Awkward Pause adds David Tibet, Christoph
Heeman, Colin Potter and Petr Vastil (Aranos) to the mix, resulting in one
an extremely unique sounding and dare we say, rocking release.
*This 2CD set is released in a deluxe digipack and adds a second disc of
all previously unreleased tracks.  Most interesting to Nurse fans is the
fact that one of the tracks allows the listener to take all the elements
and mix their own version of `Two Shaves and a Shine'!!.
*Nurse With Wound (or NWW) were formed in 1978 by Steven Stapleton, John
Fothergill and Heman Pathak. They explored abstract music influenced by
Krautrock, freewheeling jazz improvisation, Throbbing Gristle and Captain
Beefheart. A heavy debt also goes out to surrealists Dali and Lautramont.
*In 1988 the album `Soliloquy for Lilith' put Nurse With Wound squarely in
line with the growing ambient/electronic music scene. Nurse With Wound
recorded two split-singles with Stereolab during 1995. In 2005 the double CD
compilation, /Livin' Fear Of James Last: Best Of Nurse With Wound/, offered an
overview of selected tracks on Sanctuary. Nurse With Wound recently performed
live for the first time in 20 years at the All Tomorrow's Parties festival
organized by Thurston Moore.
