Dischord has been banging out records since year dot and this week
we've decided to give our coveted album of the week to ANTELOPE with
their cracking full length debut Reflector. The 1st time we heard this our ears
pricked up in some post punk kind of ear pricking up experience. It's less than
30 minutes long so it doesn't out stay it's welcome. Short albums are what we
need in this age of no attention span. In a nugget, we have a jerky post
punk unrock fest but there's much more to it. It's completely stripped down to
the basics with the drums, bass, guitar and vocals sparsely weaving between each
other to make some really special sounding tunes. It all sounds so effortless. Reflector
is tight as a gnat's chuff..... I bet these are the dogs knackers live. I wrote
a lot more than this but took it out cos I felt it was superfluous. I've said
enough. It's a great record and we heartily endorse its goodness.
Love this record? Hate it? Tell us.
What their label says...
*Mike and Bee have been playing together for years, most notably in the Vertebrates. Justin is a bit of a musical renaissance man, as well as playing guitar in Antelope he plays in Edie Sedgwick and is a former member of both, the now inactive, El Guapo and the recently disbanded Supersystem. *Together they are a very rhythm based 3-piece playing catchy, mesmerizing riffs that give props to Lungfish though using the melody vs. repetition equation to produce very different results that are equally as beautiful. *`Reflector' is Antelope's first full-length, it has the same stripped- down punk quality of their earlier two releases mixing up early 80's post punk influence (The Cure and Joy Division) with skewed pop (XTC) and krautrock-like rhythms. *Tracklisting: 01.
