After much deliberation, we've opted to give album of the week to ERGO PHIZMIZ. Well, actually it took us 2 seconds to decide & we threw all the other records in the bin & set them on fire. 'Nose Points in Different Directions' is what I love to regard as a sonic "stew". A spazmodic blend of itchy lunacy. Sampletronic electroscopic nutterdom that comes atcha like a multi faceted gurning raver with 18 limbs & 5 eyes. His music is the logical, melodic conclusion to all the berserk post breakcore Adadaat stuff (Check the Agaskodo Teliverik CD I implore you!). There's Aphex in there mixed with Terry Riley & Philip Glass. Plus probably Senor Coconut on acid. Tom Waits & Beefheart sabotaging the Radiophonic Workshop after downing a case of Bourbon each. There's a million ideas on this widescreen kaleidoscopic opus & they all work, tripping over each other, helping one another up in the chaotic melee. Organic samples bounce off frantic layered percussion & disjointed
rhythyms. There's a very human, humorous element to this maverick music & this some vibrant, langurous downtempo moments along the way to give you the true sense of a "journey". I wouldn't listen to it on drugs unless you want to go completely mental. It is a drug
y'see. So hear what this chap has been recording for the last 5 years & wonder why you still buy Squarepusher records (no offence!!!!) check him here
