CAT POWER is back with new single 'The Greatest'. Lifted from the long player of the same name this is a sultry piano led smoocher with strings that's somewhere between Mazzy Star and Dido (eeek!). It has that late night crying into your drink vibe'.Love & Communication' is a stripped down acoustic live sounding track that makes her sound like she's been smoking too many John Player Specials. There's lots of feeling in these tracks and you can tell she means it.CD and 7" on Matador.

To celebrate Cat Power’s Brit Award nomination, the signature track from her universally acclaimed album ‘The Greatest’ is being released on 19 February. The track is one of the most endearing and tender melodies you’re likely to hear from anyone. Exploring the harsh reality of life in the American South, the song is “a homage to humanity” with her family history as a backdrop, highlighting the struggles of the working man. Harnessing the power of Al Green’s backing group, the song was recorded with The Memphis Rhythm Band, featuring the legendary Teenie Hodges on guitar, with the addition of horns, strings and backing vocals, complementing the power of Chan Marshall’s own mesmerising voice. The b-side is an acoustic version of ‘Love and Communication’ from the AOL Sessions she did last year. The song is one of the outstanding tracks on the album and this version is an even more spine-tingling solo performance.·In further Cat Power news, Chan has been confirmed for the All Tomorrow's Parties Festival in Minehead, UK.
