The next album to ease my ears into the day is 'Matanuska'.The latest work from RAMESES III. A warm sonic blend of drones, acoustic tones and organic field recordings of birds, water etc.. A less weird Ginungagap spring to mind on the title track. I think this may well appeal to those of you that are digging stuff like James Blackshaw and Sir Richard Bishop although the guitar here is more subtle allowing the ambient drones and rich textures to absorb the listener into what is a very rewarding experience. Haha check me out. I'm all serious this week. They should give me a job at The Wire. 'Hmm yes this sounds like the mating ritual of Malaysian pole cats'. Great stuff indeed on Music Fellowship.

What their label says...

The UK's Rameses III hail from a place where subtle drifts are priceless. These insular drones are highlighted by rich acoustic depths, adding so much contrast that it's heartbreaking. Recordings of birds add a natural grace, and in the context, this trio is freed. Within these digital walls rises something majestic, extracted from the soil.

With their latest full-length release, Rameses III build upon their burgeoning reputation as architects of beautifully striking soundscapes. Matanuska invites metaphor, conjures atmosphere and envelopes the listener in its shroud. Waves of strings and keyboards create ambient sculptures that eventually find release in a blossom of bucolic folk. Matanuska will appeal to fans of Stars Of The Lid, Eyvind Kang, Brian Eno, Thomas Koner and Richard Youngs.
