Never checked out GOSSIP
before but I seem to have been drawn to their
many articles in various rags, proclaiming them to be electro soul
saviours or some such nonsence. Actually have to kinda agree here as
the
fiercely attractive large framed vixen who heads their compact unit
hasn't half got a fine voice on her. She sounds black, such is her
belting lung power & 'Standing in the Way of Control' is a great
single. A bit trashy & disco with a ragged, itchy guitar &
punk-funk drums that recall a rougher Rapture but there's absolutely no
sheen here. It's got S-O-U-L in spades & would have me on a
dancefloor in seconds. A lovely surprise. Nu-Aretha anyone? 7"/12"/CDs

What their label says...
Gossip are the coolest band on the planet right now, with fan bases
stretching from their west coast american base through New york &
London to japan and Australia. Touted by many as the best live band in
the world at the moment, the best way to describe their sound would be
PUNK/SOUL although you should listen to the album and make up your own
mind. Their amazing album 'Standing In The Way Of Control' is out now
on Back Yard. From the dancefloors of clubs worldwide, to festival fields,
auditoriums supporting Scissor Sisters, the living rooms of Jonathan
Ross’ viewers and the cover of the Guardian Weekend supplement. The
Gossip will be in the UK for a handful of shows to support the single
in February, including the NME Awards show at the Astoria on the 24th
February.‘Standing In The Way Of Control’ is available on CD single,
two 7” vinyl singles and digital download and includes exclusive new
tracks, live exclusives and remixes from Soulwax, Le Tigre, Headman,
Playgroup and more. The CD single also includes the video.
