Been trying to scan our archives for a review of EPIC 45s "new
" old album 'Slides' & actually wonder if i've ever reviewed 'em at
all! I think they're goths anyway. Everything these days reminds me of
the 'Reptile House' EP by Sisters of Mercy,
one of the most underrrated & spine shattering records you'll ever
hear. Ignore the black nail varnish & bags of flour & feel the
classic. Anyway, this CD 'Slides' has been out B4, in a ltd run of 200,
CDr fashion & now they've tagged on the 'Long Walks' tour EP &
jewel cased it all up as a fully functional release & it's
well.....pretty fabulous really. The kind of timeless experimental
rock/pop/folk that will never sound faddy or particaularly dated as the
love & attention to detail applied over the course of these superb
tunes leaves you buzzing. Take track 3, 'Looking Down A Hill' for
instance. It's like a lost Tunng instrumental , with other pieces being atmosphere drenched post Cocteaus beauty, introspective Hood
inspired experimental pop, & emotionally flooring post rock that
rolls across your ears like velvet.......oooooh this really deserved a
full release actually. We still have copies of the previous ambient
'Drakelow' EP they did which was nearly as beautiful as early Aphex Twin in parts so if you missed that, get with it!!!
