Always heartily chuckled when I heard V/VM's
warped dismemberments of popular chart faves. Always hid behind the
sofa when he did his threatening take on dark ambience & always had
to go to the doctors when exposed to his uber-harsh take on power
electronics. Now the man seems
quite content to pay homage to one of his favourite genres ever. The
Belgian acid splattered new beat sound. Whilst
Aphex goes back to his roots with airy analogue electro-tech, V/VM
explores the origins of this thundering mid tempo revolution from the
late 80's, coming up with his 2nd hugely authentic take on the
original body rocking sound. 'Made In Belgium' contains 4 tracks
dripping with menace, groove & sex. Dirty, grubby sex. This is the
music that you imagine playing in an anti ecstacy awareness propaganda
film, imagine a warehouse full of wild, ragged kids frugging away, lost
in a deeply rythmical vacant trance. It's not pleasant but is utterly
thrilling & visceral & more
importantly sounds completely timeless. New beat seems to be V/VM's
real passion, rather than his usual contempt
(hahaha!). It shows in the depth & full hypnotic darkness of these
excellent tunes. Yes, compared to so much current electronic music,
these tracks sound like the bloody future to me! 4 track Belgian import
12" on We Me & a self released budget CD, 'Sabam' which contains
all the tracks from both 12"s plus some extra bits for you non vinyl
heathens!! Hugely recommended & my record of the week!!!
