From Grime to leftfieldpostspace rock hailing from the wilds of Genoa in
Italy, here come Port-Royal. Collapsing comfortably between the ethereal flab of
Sigur Ros & the polished head-scapes of EITS, 'Flares' is an absorbing &
innovative progression for my ears at least. Atmospheric is a word that my
internal thesaurus should have taken outside for a "right ROYAL
bashing" by now, but no, It's a stubborn bugger & has returned
brandishing a sawn off shotgun & a hammer. I know all this post rock palaver
by now. Keyboard set to "laser", twinkling guitars like shards of
brittle glass, mesmeric drums & quietly looming bass pulses. It takes you to
a place near the North sea & just when you think you're about to make love
to a dolphin, It feeds the entire line up of 65 Days Of Static to a rabid shark
right in front of your eyes. Right bloomin' good, then....CD only
