First let's get this Franz Ferdinand Xmas single out of the way. It's
really hard to cynical about 'Walk Away'. Unlike the jawdroppingly annoying 'Do
You Want To', this has everything you'd want from a Kapranos & Co ballad. An
opening guitar line that screams "classic" as it seems so familiar
before it tumbles into the kind of timeless indie torch song that'll have
couples hotstepping at Christmas parties for (hopefully) years. Almost perfectly
formed, catchy, spine tingly beautiful & possibly my fave song off the
album. Even the corny ad-libbing chucked clumsily into the blend half way
through just adds to It's charm. If anyone slags me for liking this I'll bite their
noses off so there. CD1 has a clanking, HILARIOUS version of Air's 'Sexy
Boy' that recalls The Wedding Present's dodgy Hit Parade covers debacle
of 13 years ago. Does anyone else hear a less grating Gedge in Kapranos's
vocals? It's been bugging me since they first arrived on the scene!
