I feel like I'm having a bit of a go at folkies this week - I love folk music
but like all musical genres there's always people ready to jump on the
bandwagon and the trick is to be able to sort the wheat from the chaff. Anyway
new single from one of the nu-folk 'leaders' Devendra Banhart - the
single starts with a horrid piano blues lament a la Muddy Waters. Once
the song gets going I realise I pretty much hate it. Its just 12 bar blues
basically. That said Fat Barry was raving about it last week so it could just be
me...but it sounds just
exactly like the Bob Dylan
song 'Rainy Day Women' (I think)- its the
absolute the spit of it. Do all these people think we're fecking
stupid? If I
wanted to hear that song I'd jolly well go out and listen to it. That
said, Banhart has done some good stuff - but not this one. He never
shuts up
either - he's so self indulgent. Comes on a CD with 3 tracks and a 7"
with two (the B side is different on the 7").On XL.
