Listening to the Umlaut single today made me think that the 'cutie' scene  is definitely back. I think I'll go and dust down my old Haywains badge. Anyway I thought I'd give a little mention to a couple of the leading lights of that scene the first time around who have new albums out this week on LTM. The best band on Sarah Records were undoubtedly The Field Mice. We have a new CD by The Occasional Keepers  which is a project of Bobby Wratten (Field Mice) alongside collaborators from Trembling Blue Stars, Aberdeen and The Wake. The album is a mixed bag featuring dark Go-Betweens style ballads, droning Northern Picture Library type ambient soundscapes and everything in-between. Next is a re-issue of 'Lyceum' by fellow Sarah Records alumni The Orchids featuring a whole host of extra singles. In hindsight The Orchids sound quite unbelievably like Felt ....with maybe a hint of Orange Juice. They wrote some great songs and many are included here.
