You don't get many bands better than the Field Mice but one maybe Yo La Tengo
fall into that bracket. They have been consistently brilliant for about 20 years
and even if the last 2 albums were a bit off the pace you can forgiven them for
the amazing back catalogue they have amassed. Anyway Matador have kindly
released a 'best of' kind of that spans their career. There are 2 versions. The
cheap version is a double CD that contains all their finest moments. The
slightly more expensive (but still relatively cheap) version contains a bonus CD
of outtakes and rarities. How to describe Yo La Tengo....virtually impossible
but put the finest moments of Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine, REM, Neil Young
and Spacemen 3 in a blender and you're somewhere close. For the uninitiated I'd
say again just buy it. For long term fans - how can you resist?
