Blessed relief comes in the form of a tune I've been waiting a year for. Some
smug bastard @ Fact magazine* cleverly stated "If you don't own 'Galang'
by M.I.A. already, you're either a fool or have been in prison for the last year
thus unable to get down your local record shop" Well, TWAT, It's been
completely impossible to get hold of since the limited initial run sold
out before last Crimbo, no-one knew who was distributing it & Radio 1 caned
it without it having a general release. There's nothing worse than that
cooler-than-thou slack journalism & as you can tell from this spot of spleen
venting, I've been desperate for a copy for ages. We don't all get the privilege
of advance promos you know! Back to the music, here we have a slinky, sassy & infectious slice of
dancehall -electro-garage joy co-written with one Fat Trucker, one member of
Pulp
& a certain Miss Frischmann from Elastica. This lass is a far more important
proposition for XL than the likes of Wylie as far as taking multi cultural
& urban blends & making them sexy, vibrant, innovative & most of all
FUN. Single of the week, if not month.
Love this record? Hate it? Tell us.
