Comedy album of the week award goes to ARE Weapons. You've got have some sort of respect for Rough Trade over the years bringing a wide range of quality music to us but what the feck do they think they're doing bringing this pile of absolute cock to my attention. Like a bad Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine, an even worse Pop Will Eat Itself and let's bring some Jesus Jones into the occasion. This is absolute dross. I've never heard such baffoonery in my entire life. It sounds a bit like Andrew WK as well at times.... and that's a good thing.... I think not..... I cannot recomend this at all to anyone unless your planning to start a university course on how to make shit records. This reeks...

Love this record? Hate it? Tell us.

What their label says...

A.R.E. Weapons is a NYC trio consisting of Matthew McAuley, Brain F McPeck and manager/musician Paul Sevigny. The Weapons have been making tracks and playing incendiary live shows in and around the downtown NYC slum set.

Throwing parties/showz that draw crazers of all sorts (drug addicts, gallery owners, actress people, model things, fashion dorks, music nerds, criminals, and ultimately the police), the Weapons have inevitably earned a reputation for being wild and bold with the balls to back it up. Not content neither with retro-retard rock nor electro-amateurism, the Weapons have created a sound high on energy, long on musicality, and rife with pissed off, but ultimately positive, messages.

A self-produced and self-released demo quickly moved off the shelves in New York 2000, eventually ending up in the Rough Trade UK office via that Pulp dude. Offers to release said demo were refused, but an agreement was reached to release a pair of singles and put the Weapons in the studio with producer Marc Waterman of Elastica fame.

On the strength and positive reaction of the debut "Street Gang" single, the Weapons toured UK and Europe before entering the studio in 2002. With the upcoming and eagerly anticipated full-length debut, the Weapons have achieved a tough, new, aggressive sound and message. And are as ready as ever to bring their determined, honed attack to the masses.
