The new Piano Magic CD is absolutely lovely. It's by far the most lovely thing they have done. Beautiful classical ambience, a little Godspeedy in places, very grand, pompous and quite miserable sounding at homes. Gourgeous and the best thing they've done since that 12" on Piao. You need this..... Son De Mar is CD only

What their label says...

A lot of music commissioned for films, while perfectly suited as complementary or background music, does not stand well outside of a film's unique environment. So, although I usually think highly of Piano Magic, my expectations for Son de Mar (Music From the Film by Bigas Luna) were low. To my delight, this soundtrack not only stands well on its own, but it is also one of the most beautifully relaxing yet engaging albums I have heard in a long time.

Son de Mar is divided into six untitled sections, with a running time of just under 40 minutes. Since Son de Mar translates as "the sound of the sea," it isn't surprising that a lot of the songs are intercut and overlaid with the sound of real waves softly breaking on the sand and docks. But don't mistake Son de Mar for some lame "Sounds of the Sea" relaxation CD sold at yuppie boutiques. In combining keyboards, guitar, subtle drumming, and viola, Piano Magic has created what is certainly a wonderful and fitting soundtrack for Luna's film. More importantly, though, Son de Mar is just as enjoyable on its own.
