This is really quite nice, this EP. The singer dude's voice has a distinct air of Zach Condon about it, not as heart wrenchingly dramatic but emotive & affecting nevertheless. The first track is a fantastically lush, twinkly indie-folk number. Something about it reminds me of The Miserable Rich but I may be wrong? As the EP progresses you get a real sense of accomplished majesty from this music. Sad yet uplifting, full blooded yet sensitive, commercially appealing yet not at all dull. This ex-Fanfarlo guitarist & his cohorts have a rather special appeal. All 4 tracks suggest a down-to-earth music full of heart & wonder, passionately detailed without being over-fussy or remotely overblown! Consider me a fan!

Sound clips for Waves Freeze to Rolling Hills by The Lost Cavalry: on CD at Norman Records UK. CD, Two Six Heave, £3.09.
The Lost Cavalry are a London-based alternative folk band formed in 2009 by vocalist Mark West, formerly the guitarist of Fanfarlo. Their debut EP ‘Waves Freeze To Rolling Hills’ is released on August 2nd 2010 on their own label ‘Two Six Heave’ and will be available on CD and digital download.
Mark sings and plays the ukulele and concertina, Nick plays guitar, Toby plays the glock and melodica, Oliver plays bass and Dave drums. The beautiful artwork is by Toby who is an illustrator and really captures the themes of the EP.
The magical land created by The Lost Cavalry harps back to idyllic, childhood tales of adventure and fantasy. The wonderful array of instruments makes an interesting music box of shanties, with the imagination and talent to turn these stories into beautiful songs.
The songs are all stories. If you place the songs end to end they form a novel, which you can read in any order. Tales of elephants returning to life, of ghostly soldiers marching down midnight streets, of boats setting sail to lost islands…
In celebration of the release of this wonderful EP you can catch them performing their tales on a boat at Tamesis Dock on the August 4th.
