Here is a 6 track EP/ mini-album of high quality singer songwriter/ folk, that is very well written. Some sweet and honest little tunes on here that are both evocative and stirring. This chap Rodge Glass has a comforting vocal and I particularly like the viola and flute appearances. Fans of the scottish new folk scene/ Chemikal Underground/ The Fence label etc. should check it out. Heartwarming stuff.

What their label says...

Taken from a series of recording sessions at Chemikal Underground’s Chem 19 studios with producer Davey McAuley (currently of Strike The Colours), and follows the release of their critically-acclaimed debut single ‘The Moments Before’ – which was marked with a sold-out launch gig at Captain’s Rest, Glasgow in November 2009. The genesis of ‘Music and Maths’ came about when Glasgow folk/experimental micro-indie Chaffinch  – who in the past have masterminded limited-edition releases featuring the likes of the Second Hand Marching Band and King Creosote – approached Burnt Island with the intention of releasing a short-run EP. After the writing and recording of new songs at the end of 2009, the decision was made to upgrade that EP to a mini-album. Across six tracks, it captures some of the broad scope of Burnt Island’s songwriting, from the fluttering chamber-folk of the David Foster Wallace-inspired ‘A Supposedly Fun Thing I’ll Never Do Again’ to the sparse verses and stirring choral choruses of the title track, and the delicately understated ‘Me and All of My Friends Are Alright’, which could be Bonnie Prince Billy as produced by Nigel Godrich. The band have been Vic Galloway’s ‘Unsigned Heroes’ on his BBC Radio Scotland show, and played at both the Triptych and Connect festivals, as well as supported the likes of A Hawk and a Hacksaw, Hjaltalin, Sleeping States, The Phenomenal Handclap Band, Strike the Colours and Erland and the Carnival. Rodge, also a novelist and biographer, contributed to Ballads of the Book, an album released in 2007 by Chemikal Underground Records which featured collaborations between authors and musicians. He co-wrote and performed the track ‘The Fire’ with folk legend Vashti Bunyan. “Sombre and moving…  like a downbeat Delgados on an acoustic tip.” The List ****

“A beautiful track.” Vic Galloway, BBC Radio Scotland Track listing: 1/A Supposedly Fun Thing I’ll Never Do Again 2/Hiding Out 3/Man on Fire 4/A New Start 5/Music and Maths 6/Me and All of My Friends Are Alright
