A new Liars album, eh? I think I'm very interested in that. Kicking off with the excellent 'Scissor' which builds with their trademark oddball harmonies before exploding into hyper-riffy life, Sisterworld takes a whistlestop tour through the various sounds they've played around with down the years - skronky rock, nightmare tribalism, post-punking etc. etc. It's characteristically all over the place (one song even nicks the electronics from 'Maps' by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs) and not particularly immediate or easy to get a handle on but these fellas have got enough credit with me from years of cracking releases that I'm confident in predicting this one to be a grower.. We're all definitely getting into it second time around so I'm sure repeated listens will reap hearty rewards. In any case, the CD is worth owning for the mental concertina scenescape package alone - not to mention the bonus CD (which we haven't heard, unfortunately) which features mixes from the likes of Chris & Cosey, Melvins, Thom Yorke, Atlas Sound, Boyd Rice etc. etc. Double vinyl with both CDs to follow soon!

What their label says...

Liars return with their fifth album Sisterworld, their most accessible yet audacious record to date.  Based upon the band's experience and experiments in LA, it is an art-pop thrill from start to finish.  Without a doubt, Liars are now truly established as artistic leaders of the current crop of Brooklyn bands and this new album will cement that reputation and win over a whole new fanbase.

The focus of the release is the magnificent and unique (and limited!) 2-disc set.  This comes in a fold-out book complete with a speak-easy viewfinder into a concertina panorama of Liars' Sisterworld.  The second disc (which will not be available as a promotional copy prior to release) includes remixes and reinterpretations of all eleven tracks by the likes of Thom Yorke, Devendra Banhart, Alan Vega, Bradford Cox (Deerhunter/Atlas Sound), Tunde Adebimpe (TV on the Radio), Melvins, Chris & Cosey, and more.

The vinyl edition of the album will include both the standard album and the reinterpretations accompanying set.  Included in the package are CDs of both LPs to allow for the vinyl enthusiast to easily convert for their mp3 player etc.
