Yellow 6 releases one of his much loved 6mas volumes for this last annum 2009. I like the mock Crass style sleeve especially but I'm really into the music on this volume, his style seemingly different to his old shimmering Cocteaus style gear I'm more familiar with! He employs a fairly cinematic, spacious style here - including some very atmospheric drone touches as a backdrop - but when those magic fingers start plucking away you're sure to be transported to ecstatic, soothing plains that are occasionally reminiscent of GYBE's more reflective passages. Quality gear, I think Mr Attwood'd be on my Christmas card list if I could be arsed at all with the lopsided spectacle of it all....

THE LATEST IN THE LONG RUNNING MERRY6MAS SERIES, STARTED IN 1998, THIS EDITION IS THE FIRST RELEASE ON THE NEW 'EDITIONS6' LABEL. THE MUSIC ON THIS DISC (9 TRACKS, 52 MINUTES) IS ALL EXCLUSIVE TO THIS RELEASE. THE MAJORITY OF THE MUSIC WAS COMPOSED FOR THE SHORT FILM '9732' BY SWEDISH DIRECTOR NICLAZ ERLINGMARK (ELENZIAH FILM) WHO CONTACTED YELLOW6 LATE IN 2008 TO SCORE MUSIC FOR THE FILM. DURING THE WRITING OF THE SCREENPLAY, NICLAZ HAD BEEN LISTENING TO 'TELESCOPE PEAK', A TRACK FROM THE 2001 YELLOW6 ALBUM 'MUSIC FOR PLEASURE'. OVER A FEW WEEKS OVER AN HOUR OF NEW MUSIC WAS RECORDED FOR CONSIDERATION FOR THE FILM, MOST OF WHICH IS INCLUDED HERE. AFTER MANY EDITS, THE FILM WAS COMPLETED CONTAINING ONLY THE ORIGINAL TELESCOPE PEAK, AND PLEASURE/PAIN (FROM PAINTED SKY).

THE PIECES HERE ARE THOSE THAT WERE INSPIRED BY THE FILM AND STAND ON THEIR OWN, MOSTLY WITH FURTHER TRACKING/MIXING ADDED. ALSO INCLUDED IS A RE-RECORDING OF TELESCOPE PEAK. THE FILM 9732 WILL BE RELEASED DURING 2010.
