What their label says...

Debut from Gary War, from Brooklyn NY. A one-man phantasmagoria of swooshing spectral pop. Somewhere over theBlack Moth Super Rainbow, he spins gaseous cobwebs of eldritchbubblegum. While the hauntology's ghost hunters in the U.K. look tolibrary music and vintage soundtracks, he pinches from the "dense, ponderous soporific mass" of '70s FM sound, to borrow Howard Hampton'sdescription. Like Ariel Pink, War drenches exaggerated melodies in aglutinous bath of effects, melting them to crumbs afloat in the balmybreeze. He also plays in the Super Vacations, whose slimmed-down,straight-cut jingle-jangle shimmies where his tunes waft review from LA Weekly show at THE SMELLWritten, preformed and recorded By GARY WAR on a TASCAM 488. Gary War began his current project in the late 1990s when he started recording cassettes at home in Cambridge, MA, while still attending high school. In 2004 Gary moved to Los Angeles, where he shared a practice space with Robert Robinson of Sore Eros and collaborated with him on a number of recordings, most of which were never released. Some tracks, however, did find their way onto a few self-released CD-R compilations, which also featured collaborations with Kurt Vile and were put out on their own Light Dead Sea label. In early 2008 Gary moved back to the east coast, settling in Brooklyn to continue his project. In the summer he began a collaboration with Blank Dogs front-man Mike Sniper called Roman Soldiers, and his debut LP, New Raytheonport, was released on Shdwply Records in the fall. This summer will see the release of two new Gary War 12-inch EPs, Galactic Citizens (Woodsist) and Highlands (Captured Tracks), and the new full-length, Horribles Parade, which will be released on Sacred Bones. Also out this May on Captured Tracks is the debut Roman Soldiers single. Consistent members of Gary's live band include Nick Branigan (drums), Justin Frye (bass), Kris Thompson (synth), and Gigi Whiz (synth), with occasional appearances by Sore Eros members Robert Robinson and Adam Langellotti.
