Six Organs of Admittance have 'Luminous Night' out on Drag City. When we first played this I was quite surprised as what I was hearing was somewhat unexpected. It's a dark albat kind of treads new territory for the artist. Randall Dunn is on production duties and he's worked with Sunn O)), Sun City Girls and Earth. He's captured the sound really well with the production sounding big and cinematic. What surprised me most were the vocals which give the album a black folk, gothic feeling. The second time this got played I was a lot more taken with it. The tracks all feel very grand with some flute and tabla assistance. It feels a lot more like a band being orchestrated by Chasney with the players and producer assisting him in his vision. CD and LP on Drag City. Current 93 fans are advised to check this one out.

‘Luminous Night’ is the brand-new Six Organs Of Admittance album, the first in two years.
‘Luminous Night’ features the talents of Randall Dunn (producer of Sunn O))), Earth and Sun City Girls, amongst many others) and viola player Eyvind Kang, both of whom lent their arranging skills to the recent Sunn O))) opus. The other invaluable contributors to the album are Hans Teuber on flute, Tor Dietrichson on tabla, Matt Chamberlin on drums, and Dave Abramson on percussion. Occupying their spots with care, they’ve collaborated to create something rich and vibrant, aching and new.
For its blanketing sound, ‘Luminous Night’ draws inspiration from such cinematic sources as Jodorowky’s ‘El Topo’ soundtrack and the scores of Kurosawa’s samurai films, but is at the same time music that could only have come from the singular sound world of Six Organs Of Admittance.
