What their label says...
Available once more in Europe, Kranky are re-issuing ‘Beat’, Bowery Electric’s second full-length from 1996.
With their now familiar sense of economy apparent in the arrangements, Beat finds Bowery Electric adding layers of analogue synth and sampled guitars to their ’drone n’ bass’ foundations, along with programmed loops and live beats; further befuddling those Luddites still wondering whether the band is rock, post rock, ambient or dance.
"Bowery Electric weave chilled downbeat dirges via hazy sheets of distorted guitar (that sound as though they were recorded underwater), stumbling sluggish percussion and benumbed male/female vocals... the album works as a
sustained moodpiece..." - The Wire
Formed in New York, 1993, Bowery Electric are Lawrence Chandler (guitar, keyboards, programming, vocals) and Martha Schwendener (bass, keyboards, vocals)
