I've been awaiting the release of this here Pansonic and Keiji Haino 'Shall I Download A Blackhole And Offer It To You' since it popped up on our site on my day off and I clocked it. It's somewhat of a dream collaboration for me and so I couldn't help but feel my expectations would be too high and that I'd inevitably be disappointed when it arrived. It therefore makes me happy that it sounds wicked although Pansonic's contribution is fairly minor and at time's I wonder what they're actually doing. I cant help but feel they really held back during the recording but then again if you were in the presence of such a figure as Haino you wouldn't want to smother his sound with a load of pummeling beats and technoid pulses. I'd love to hear that though.. Maybe one day. Haino's guitar sounds totally caustic when he really lets rip. There are some quiet parts where they're building up which almost feels frustrating to listen to like you just need them to bring the noise. Haino's vocals as usual sound amazing and when he really gets down to business it's almost uncomfortable to listen to, my usual response is to laugh. Lovely packaging designed by Stephen O'Malley, out on Blast First Petite.
