I've always had respect for bands that buck marketing convention. Deerhunter are of that old skool breed who realise there's no point milking an album for hits and flinging inferior B-sides/live versions at people. Just give 'em a bonus album for the laugh! Or when the LP's being toured, treat the baying, braying kids by bunging out a brand new 5 track EP, chock full of taut, shoegaze inspired motorik pop like 'Disappearing Ink', languid robotic garagey pop such as 'Famous Last Words' and the pulsing ethereal future rock of closer 'Circulation' - as fine a tune as I've heard them do. I've finally "got" this band after a couple of years and especially like their signature sound when it's applied to their interpretation of hazy, tripped-out pop song. Rainwater Cassette Exchange is an excellent primer for the uninitiated or for the most part a worthy companion to 'Microcastle' (the tunes on here are better I reckon!!!)
