Sittin' here caressing my beloved tub of low fat cherry yogurt. Not one to advertise products, me (apart from our weekly round up of musical platters!!) but Rachel's organic low-fat bio live bloody rules my world & I'd probably be dead without it, taking into account my tumultuous lifestyle. My Sad Captains accompany my dairy treat consumption and I'm unsure whether their rather glossy take on melodic college rock & FM radio indie is in keeping with such creamy, fruity, natural goodness. I think they play their debut album on Stolen incredibly safe, there's nary an unfamiliar chord change or vocal harmony throughout 'Here & Elsewhere' but the quality & fullness of production is top notch, sometimes recalling Mercury Rev's lusher moments & later Pavement with their distinctive kink ironed out. This is what I'd term a family album, inoffensive & foot tappingly satisfying on the surface but for the more adventurous indie kid, this may be a little pedestrian. Nice melodies etc.....

What their label says...

British quintet My Sad Captains take the country-tinged American sounds of
Sparklehorse and Wilco and lend them a sparkling, harmony-rich pop edge.

Their catchy melodies and easy charm have quickly made them favourites on the
London gig circuit, having sung their hearts out across town with the likes of Tilly
and the Wall, Why?, Darren Hayman, The War on Drugs, Pete and the
Pirates, Loney Dear, Get Cape Wear Cape Fly, and The Broken Family
Band.

Last year also saw their first festival appearance, a scene-stealing show at End
Of The Road. Their last single ‘Great Expectations’ features in the new
indie film ‘1234’ which premiered at this year's London Film Festival.
