i'm quite alarmed that no-one has reviewed this yet. i've seen a lot written about it on that big thing we call the internet  - some good, some bad. so its good that i can finally get an opinion of my own.  well on first listen i think its very good  - taking the complex avant rock of gastr del sol and matching it with arthur russell style disco and r&b moves that are so stuttery and ever so slightly unsure of themselves in style that they could only come from the mind of a white man.

it will probably take a bit of getting used to for some people but thats what i like about it. kind of like a modern day talking heads that have soaked up the influence of the chicago based math rock bands and done a lot of listening to john cale.

“At first, I listen to this record hunting for a theme. I hear big riffs that make me
think of classic rock, so I think, “Is this Led Zeppelin deconstructed?” I hear folk
guitar picking and gorgeous strings, so I think, “Is this 60’s folk-pop re-imagined?”

all I can hear is Dirty Projectors. Ultimately, I don’t hear Brian’s brutally excellent

• Following the Animal Collective’s fantastic start to the year, there is great
feeling that Brooklyn’s Dirty Projectors could also have the same
crossover appeal.
