Why can't more bands release music that's as irresistibly Summer orientated as Black Moth Super Rainbow? Their first EU promoted album is fuzzing away in my ears, all distorted through the technological gaffe that is a combination of Goodmans headphones borrowed off someone's Grandad & windows media player. It's called 'Eating Us' and is a triptastic ride through territories previously inhabited by Air, The Beta Band, SFA, Add N (to X) and old Glasto faves The Egg. You could plausibly add contemporaries such as Mirror Mirror to that list - Points knocked off for ripping the keyboard refrain from Julian Cope's 'Sunspots' on the opening track mind.....So....floaty vocodered vocals, keyboards that wibble at your ankles, begging to be picked up & stroked, cute bobbing basslines designed for chill out tents the world over & some of the most charming, twinkly melodies you could set yr ears on. One track particularly stands out for me - 'Iron Lemonade' - a slightly darker broody beast which still features some of THE zingiest prog synth washes and David Fridmann's famed widescreen drum sound that eventually gets buried under this fog of evil wasp sci-fi sludge. It shapes up to be a thoroughly enjoyable listen although besides a few snazzy production touches, this is indeed the sound of 10 years ago. That ain't no critisism mind, just surprised by how quickly certain musical fads come round again. To be honest, the quality of this record ensures it'll be fairly timeless and gladly received by the psych pop kids! Ltd number of initial copies arrive with a bonus 6 track sampler featuring some other shizzle they've knocked out in their purple velvet yurt in the middle of wizardsville. Tops...
