I had to play this Lovely Eggs 'If You Were Fruit' CD after Business Lady and Brett had left for fear of death. They're not fans... I don't see what's not to like myself? It's got a big lemon on the cover with the words "Eat Shit" on it and they sing songs about the most ludicrous things which is 'kind of' funny. The novelty could wear off I suppose but it's charming to hear someone singing like Birds but like other animals too. Hey it's twee.. but it's it's got balls as the music is often balls out noisy rock. Some of the songs aren't a million miles away from Kimya Dawson and she's well daft. This record is many things.... it's cute, charming, light hearted, quirky, possibly slightly annoying but I can ignore the latter as it's to be taken lightly and I need something to brighten up my life today.

Love this record? Hate it? Tell us.

What their label says...

'An amazing duet who sing about strange things and sound even more interesting. You won't hear another band like this anywhere between now and the the end of the millenium. The Lovely Eggs are just brilliant!' - Huw Stephens, Radio One. ‘I love them so much that, well, have you seen the film Misery? I would so put a block from ankle to ankle on both these guys and keep them in my cabin and make them perform for me over and over and over and over.’- Unpeeled. The Lovely Eggs played their first ever gig in New York in 2006 and since then they have attracted quite a following! DJs Huw Stephens, Marc Riley, Rob Da Bank, Steve Lamacq, Tom Robinson and Jon Kennedy are all fans of The Lovely Eggs’ quirky lo-fi, DIY sound which has been described as ‘Fitting snugly between kooky kitsch and borderline avant-garde’.  In November of last year the band were invited by Huw Stephens to perform at Swn Festival in Cardiff and recorded a Radio One session at BBC Maida Vale for Huw's 'Introducing' show. The pair have also performed a live session on Marc Riley's BBC 6 Music show, as well as for XFM as part of Manchester's 'In The City'. The band also have a wide internet fan base and were voted ‘Best Band of 2008’ by blog-site The Devil Has The Best Tuna. Their first single and international radio hit ‘I Like Birds But I Like Other Animals Too’ was voted ‘Best track of 2008’ and the title track of their latest EP ‘Have You Ever Heard A Digital Accordion?‘ was ranked #11 by listeners of the popular internet radio station Dandelion Radio in their 2008 Peel-inspired Festive 50 chart. Holly also used to be in the critically-acclaimed all-girl indiepop band Angelica. Following the success of their debut ep, ‘Have You Ever Heard The Lovely Eggs?’, released last year on Cherryade, a split single on Filthy Little Angels and a series of well-received appearances on  compilations for labels such as Transformed Dreams,, expectations of their debut album have been  extremely high, and  with ‘If You Were Fruit’  the duo in no way disappoint. It showcases all the magic of The Lovely Eggs unique, funny, sad, moving, bewildering, beautiful sound and every one of it’s 14 tracks is a true gem. It features 12 brand new tracks as well as the band’s two smash hits to date, ‘Have You Ever Heard A Digital Accordion’ and ‘I Like Birds (But I Like Other Animals Too)’.
