Wierd release of the week is Brand NEU! which is a tribute to Krautlords Neu. What I can't get my head around is that it's got bands like Oasis on there? Yeah you read that right..... In fact there's Ciccone Youth, Primal Scream, Oasis, Foals, Kasabian. Cornelius, Holy Fuck, LCD Soundsystem, School Of Seven Bells, La Dusseldorf, Michael Rother and more. I guess it's hopefully going to bring to the attention of today's yoof that Neu were top smart indeed. So all of the above folks are covering the originals, doing special tracks for this comp or contributing old Neu-ish tracks so you too can understand how great Neu were. Though listening to it you'd wonder what Neu sounded like given the eclectic mix on here. It weirdly works quite well given that I can't do with most of the bands on here. All the bands sound different as well.... Even the Oasis track sounds like a half decent Pixies Doolittle offcut. The Foals track sounds like Cornelius and the Cornelius track sounds like Foals. The tracks which truly embody the spirit of Neu are the ones by Holy Fuck, LCD Soundsytem, School Of Seven Bells, Michael Rother and Fujiya & Miyagi. I'm not sure what's going on with the rest of 'em but it's a decent listen regardless.
