Fuck yeah! I've been waiting for this one; sometime in the last year or two Belgium's Sylvester Anfang morphed Amon Duul-style into Sylvester Anfang II and released a stellar track on a split 7" with chums Burial Hex last year that showcased their evolution into a more classically psychedelic sounding ensemble. I couldn't help but write 'ensemble' there, sorry. The crucial difference between that track and their previous percussion-based primitivist (genuinely actually freaky - check out the cover for Satanische Vrede) freak folk for me is the addition of a proper old school bass sound. It sounds like a proper woody bass, like Chris Hillman style or something, underpinning almost everything here and instantly conjuring up a complementary structure hang their always intriguing atmospheric creations upon. They've always invoked a ritualistic black magic feel but now you're made to feel propelled inevitably towards the sacrifice. The self-titled CD and double LP contains an intoxicating mix of classic outsider sensibilities with modern drone, electronic and noise twists.

What their label says...

*  Follows last year’s brilliant split 7 inch with label-mates Burial Hex.

*  Expanded line-up now includes Stef Anus (Kiss The Anus Of A Black Cat), Bram (Ignatz), Clay Ruby (Burial Hex) and Father Sloow (Sloow Tapes pontiff).

*  Comes with a poster booklet.

*  In the time since the release of Kosmies Slachtafval, Silvester Anfang have grown into SYLVESTER ANFANG II, a more psychedelic beast, a more tangible creature in some ways, but one that defies and confounds standard classification. Taking their cue from Krautrock communes of yore, the Flemish troubadours have expanded both ranks and minds and now present this giant new opus for general consumption.

*  Dust off your robes, sharpen the sacrificial blade, order in some Trappist beers...Tune in, turn on, evolve.

*  Tracklist:
1. Satan Likt Mijn Hielen 2. Na Regen Komt Zondvloed 3. The Devil Always Shits In The Same Graves Pt 1 4. Het Zilte Nat 5. Burkelbos 6. Boom Van De Eerste Menstruatie 7. Ossezaaddans 8. The Devil Always Shits In The Same Graves Pt 2 Running time: 70 minutes Bonus vinyl tracks: 1.Kaarsen En De Woestijn 2.Walpurgis
