'No Pain in Pop' is a compilation of super hipster bands who are in some way connected to the London label No pain in pop and thus it is simply titled 'No Pain in Pop'. I don't think all the bands are actually on the label but they are most certainly connected to the labels activities somehow be it via a gig, blog or some other favour. The majority of artists signed to the label are groups dabbling with the shoe-gazing genre. The Banjo or Freakout track 'MRNO' is a good example of Shoe-gazing pop being sucked in, given a modern psych twist and blown back in the face of the listener. A grave with no name are equally enamored by the shoe-gazing indie rock of the mid to late 80's and pretty much stick to the formula. This isn't a bad thing as A grave with no name are masters of knocking out spaced out indie rock gems. Then we have No pain in pop's jewel in crown in the form of London based Gentle Friendly. These guys present us with the short but sweet 'ride symbols' that glides out of the speakers like a dream come true. I love these guys, ones to watch in the future i'm sure. Additional tracks are also given space on this comp that you may already have some knowledge off. We have a version of 'Crimewave' by Health, an absolutely awesome Ponytail track called 'Beg waves' (i urge anyone who hasn't heard these awesome psych-rock dudes to check them out), a funked up 80's synth/r&b number called 'weak 4 me' by Nite Jewel (i don't much about these guys/gals but the track is a refreshing change of pace from the rest of the comp) and 'Networking' by Pens. All these bands are worth a listen in my opinion so get this little beauty if you want a taste of some fine new bands making the rounds at the moment. Good work No pain no gain!!!

One of the best new UK labels around right now drops a killer / well priced comp that pretty much encapsulates most of the cool sounds of now...As any of the 50,000 visitors to their mp3 blog no doubt testify, No Pain In Pop like their music diverse and exciting. As each band is related to No Pain In Pop in some degree - whether by release on the label, live show or blog feature -the compilation serves as an introduction to all that No Pain In Pop is. As a result, it is simply titled No Pain In Pop.
