I saw the video for the last single from the new Howling Bells album the other day and it ruined my night. The singer's very pretty and all (the main thing, obviously) but her practiced rock star poses, combined with the overly simplistic high drama of the lyrics, did my nut in - I couldn't help but think of a sort of Aussie Placebo gone country n' shoegaze. Having said all that though, I can't help but enjoy listening listening to them. The big, stadium rockin' anthems like 'Cities Burning Down' and 'Into the Chaos' at least; the slower and quieter they get the more you have to pay attention to the words and that doesn't really work in their favour despite the seductive vocals. Phil's just asked if I've got a secret crush on the singer and I probably do, but it's a grudging one because she annoys me. I mean she's not Rose or owt but she could come round when I've sent Rose out to get fish and chips maybe? Oh, there's an extra CD of live stuff with the Radio Wars CD as well.
