I can't say I've ever really bothered with Loop, probably because I'd always had the vague impression (based on what exactly I'm not too sure) that they were pretty much a poor man's Spacemen 3, but with this recent raft of reissues from Reactor I've been thinking maybe I should check them out properly so the fact that The World In Your Eyes, a three CD compilation of their singles in chronological order, has landed in my review pile is pretty handy. My swift conclusion is this: they were actually really good and although they sound inescapably of that time, there's more than enough of their own thing going on here to mark them out from the other scuzzy droney garagey guitary psychy bands doing the rounds back then (and now, come to think of it). Of course, if you're a fan you'll already know this and will be ordering this definitive puppy on sight but if you've had your interest piqued by the recent shoegaze revival or the dreaded Wooden Shjips and want to get on to the harder stuff there's certainly much worse places to start than this set.
