Frokost are a Danish duo who win massive points for sealing their snazzily packaged 'The Sound Of My Wooden Chest' CD sealed with a glossy red sticker of a dog monster. It's this minimalist design & attention to detail I find hugely intriguing, like it's daring you to open it. Will the dog bite your face off or lick you? Apparently I've just been informed we're traveling to Snowdonia in Wales with a real wolf tomorrow. Well fackin' excited by that I am boyos. When you eventually get inside this CD you're in for a treat of sideways Deus-esque pop, a little like electronic voodoo lounge rock. I'm kinda reminded a bit of Fujiya & Miyagi (a little) but if they listened to Tom Waits. There's some deliriously funky sketches on here, some really skewed DIY pop, full of inventive flourishes and quirky grooves, reminding us a lot of Beck in parts too. On the whole, a delight that actually gets better as it progresses. No front loaders these Danes. A cool smoke from start to finish. That's if you dare dally with the dawg.

What their label says...

Frokost is a Danish duo consisting of Mikkel and Tue, friends since age 6. The band was formed as a trio in high school in the early 90’s, playing a mixture of their own high-speed garage-punk songs and the occassional Hendrix cover.

The band broke up in the late 90’s, but reappeared around 2003, now as a duo. Instead of the old rehearsal room, music was now recorded entirely in Mikkel’s apartment in central Copenhagen whenever time and inspiration were plenty.

Every song was put on the band’s webpage www.frokostmusic.dk as they were made, and a maillist of friends were informed when new songs were ready for download. In 2007, as the numbers of maillist-members grew, Frokost were encouraged to release their music on cd and present it to a wider audience.

”The sound of my wooden chest” is the result. It showcases 17 of the band’s own favourites from 2003-2007 in remastered editions. Reviewers have compared the style to such diverse artists as Snakefinger, Pere Ubu, Stereo Total and Damon Albarn/Gorillaz. While the band themselves are reluctant to point out direct inspirations, a list of some of their musical heroes can be found on www.myspace.com/frokost. They describe their music as somewhat close to energetic, eclectic and quirky.

Mikkel and Tue started recording their second album just weeks ago and have a new song coming up on www.frokostmusic.dk within not too long.

”The sound of my wooden chest” was handmade in Mikkel’s apartment with the help of good friends and was released in 500 copies. It’s being sold in Copenhagen, New York, Berlin, California and now England. Thank you, Norman Records .
