I've never heard a band start an album with such a rant about a complete no-mark before but having a merciless dig about the uselessness of the guy from Reverend & the Makers (erm...the Rev?) is OK by me. Funnily enough, Future of the Left's partial previous incarnation (Mclusky) used to make me a bit negatively volatile, but all is forgiven on 'Last Night I Saved Her From Vampires', title of the week and possibly live album of the year as we don't get to review many. Hearing them direct & punchy through a PA makes me wanna go check them out myself, the bass a dirgy, almost formless grind of pure sluggery, the drums cacophonous & math-tight, the guitar a dirty vicious scrawl & the singer sounding like he's been gargling ashtrays all night. They remind me of all those bands I mention every week, well one in particular, Ligament. Proper trashed & mosh-tastic rock 'n' roll to throw yourself around grubby toilet venues (or your bedroom) to. The most evil & feral thing I've ever heard on 4AD (who've apparently eaten Too pure , their previous dwelling) since Black Francis first let of one of those bloodcurdling screams 22 years ago.
