The Hepadaboo is the oddly-titled new album from Now. This is what I call music!!one!1! Starting off with a ten minute tune that to all intents and purposes sounds exactly like a far less confrontational Suicide this London collective of about fifty thousand musicians then proceed to wander their way through various reference points from No Wave and funk to Stereolab and the United States of America with the occasional krautrockian embellishment. It's a tad unfocused at times, inevitable with a large group with so many disparate influences, but for the most part these tracks are united by a real emphasis on groove - something that they pull off very well. I'm quite enjoying this, seems like it's more than a worthy follow-up to their past releases on Pickled Egg and Disco_r.dance. CD only, all the way from Nippon!

On The Hepadaboo, their second studio album, London-based group NOW are delving further into the unexplored regions of off-beat pop music. Brainchild of songwriter and multi instrumentalist Justin Paton, the band has been cultivating their very own concoction of ‘krautrocky, catchy, contemporary, inventive, exotic, melodious and harmonious and disharmonious 21st century pop music’ since 1998. The current incarnation of NOW consists of Angela Last (bass, voice, synthesizer, percussion), Barry Woodcock (synthesizer), Delia Barnard (percussion, guitar, voice), Justin Paton (voice, guitar, synthesizer, percussion), Richard Thomas (cello, percussion, voice), Tatiana Echeverri Fernandez (percussion, voice), Zeeshan Sarwar (voice). Before releasing their first album to great critical acclaim, NOW worked with visionary underground musicians such as Can’s Damo Suzuki(a joint album was released in 2007 and got a rave review in The Wire magazine), Charles Hayward(This Heat), Salvatore(Norway's motorik masters), Kaori Tsuchida(The Go! Team), Hugh Metcalfe (London's The Klinker club) and Man From Uranus, and regularly appeared on CD and vinyl compilations. Their sense of adventure continues to attract interesting collaborations, and has earned them support slots with bands such as Faust, Circle, Tunng, Psapp, Rothko, Plaidand A Hawk And A Hacksaw. This February, The Stooges’ Mike Wattdedicated an entire radio show to their music. Now will appear live in Japan in 2009 as well as more performances in the UK and Norway.
