So here's your free gift if you've chosen to take up our fine Make Mine Music promotion - MM050, the 50th release on the label. Featuring the likes of Millimetrik, Piano Magic, Yellow6 and Epic 45, this compilation celebrates a label with a progressive, artist-centric mindset that's showing everyone the way it could be done. Technically the label is run by the artists, who pay for the manufacturing and promotional side of things and receive 100% of the income generated in return. And the music's also a hell of a lot better than you'd have any right to expect from a load of commies, it's tough to sum up a compilation neatly (it's probably better to read some reviews of the individual artists on here to get a better idea) but generally Make Mine Music's stuff is around the ballpark of floaty experimental electronicalness with the emphasis on interesting ear-tickling soundsmithery. There are exceptions, but that's pretty much their speciality.. Both in the quality of their releases and the way they go about their business, Make Mine Music are a shining example in this vile industry of boggy filth. Wake up record industry, you have nothing to lose but your chains!

What their label says...

Make Mine Music releases a collection of exclusive tracks showcasing the work of artists on the innovative label as it reaches its landmark 50th release on Monday 24 November. The compilation includes new recruits Piano Magic and Calder, label favourites Epic45 and the musical return of label founder Scott Sinfield aka Portal. The six-year-old label celebrates its landmark 50th release with a compilation of exclusive new material by 16 artists from the label’s roster. After quietly releasing a range of critically acclaimed albums and EPs, they now boldly state their manifesto. These are difficult times for the music industry with filesharing, illegal downloads and falling sales. The traditional music business model is failing and record labels are scrabbling to find a way to survive. Artists too are campaigning for better copyright laws and greater shares of royalties through coalitions. But these still rely on an outdated model of releasing music. For Make Mine Music, this isn’t a crisis. It’s a golden opportunity. Make Mine Music is a truly radical independent label, run and owned by the artists themselves. The artists pay for the manufacture and promotion of their own records and correspondingly receive 100% of any income generated. There are no management pockets to line, no shareholders to please, no restrictive contracts or demands placed upon the artists. Six years and 50 releases after its inception, Make Mine Music is proof that there is another way. It’s time for other artists and labels to catch up. MMM050 is released on Monday 24 November 2008 and will be available from www.makeminemailorder.com, and high street and internet retailers.
