Brightblack Morning Light now. Not over familiar with these Matador dwelling buggers but i'm fondling the case for their new album 'Motion to Rejoin' trying to come up with summat informative and witty. Once again, virtually reviewing them "blind" as we hardly get any of the promo releases for these bloody things. You try reviewing an album in quarter of an hour you've never set ears on before?! The cover looks a bit prog but the music is more like downtempo cinematic sleaze jazz. Anthony says more sleaze than Peter Mandelson. Phil says not a million miles from Bohren. I say there's a bit of a slide guitar blues vibe just gone-a-sweeping by my lugs so it's a right old mixed bag of influences to make one tasty dark brew. Even some gospel in there like Spiritualized on Mogadon jamming with Tom Waits & John Lurie in a cellar full of opium & goat skulls. Must be the Thursday afternoon weekend slide in my head for i'm utterly liking this hazy CD lots. There's an atmosphere & authentic passion to this album that is slightly ghostly but comforting, a genuine soul albeit one drifting off its tits through a long tunnel full of voodoo spectres. Even better is the fact they recorded this with just 4 solar panels!

What their label says...

· Previous to this recording, while Brightblack
Morning Light toured Europe, singer Naybob
Shineywater sang each show with an arrowhead
in his mouth. Why? To let his own sung words &
breath touch this stone before European ears could
hear them reveals Naybob.
· After returning from the tour, a chance to move
into an adobe on a secluded enchanted mesa came
to Naybob. With only four sonar panels, it matched
his desire to live in a meagre way while making the
second Brightblack Morning Light LP. Thus,
‘Motion To Rejoin’ is anti-nuclear and coal, but
also aligned with the phases of the sun.
· The blues, gospel and country music beginnings
came about because of a lifestyle, not because
someone in a city imitated the sum result. The
bands music evolves from Shineywater and Hughes’
own Alabama roots.
