After fondling that record and then picking up a jewel case CD it's like dating Kylie for six months, getting the boot then having to settle for a quick hand shandy off big Tracy from the local darts team. ... And onto 'Cerebro Spin' the latest Melodium offering on Audio Dregs. Melodium has been ploughing away for a while now with releases on Active Suspension, Unlabel, Autres Directions etc. Laurent Girard is the man behind the pseudonym and it's one that fits like a glove as his sound is heavily centred around melody. Actually some of the melodies on here are very sweet indeed and have me grinning, thinking about the impending spring season and getting out of the summer gloom. I'd say the mix of electronics to real instruments is probably around 50/50 on here so it's a nice balance. All very emotive and uplifting with moments of melancholy... Oh Laurent Girard is French, I heard on the radio yesterday that some offical was adivising French people not to drink wine for health reasons. How ludicrous is that??? Next thing you know they'll be advising us Welsh not to have sex with sheep.

Melodium is the moniker of Laurent Girard, a rather prolific electronic musician from Nantes, France with an obsession for melodies. Weaving bits of guitar, piano, synthesizer, flute or bits of voice and texture to create patterns in sound and small personal soundtracks that are at once somber, while retaining a feeling of sunny optimism.
