Not often I take a straight indie pop album home these days and like it as much as Thomas Tantrum's self titled debut. It's chock full of potential singles to start with. The lasses voice really charms me, being this childlike sing song chirrup, half conversational, really charismatic. And the music is just great, stacked with endless, original hooks. There's this effervescent fresh bounce to it that reminds me of of prime Lush or Catatonia's finest chart shagging moments but the playfulness of the guitar snaking through my head like a dizzy puppy suggests much more than post britpop terrace anthem machine. They've obviously been studying at the institute for real indie as there's not a "fashionable" drum style to be heard, no punk funk rhythm section or Keith Levene rip-off guitar here. Just stacks of adorable, flighty adrenalised guitar pop that fizzes through your brain, reminding you of a time when Steve Lamacq & Jo Whiley were on in the evening (yes, they did once make a radio show worth listening to!) 'Swan Lake' is my favorite, it sends shivers up me, such a perfectly formed tune! And there's many more. If you liked the singles, then prepare for a great full lengther & see them live for we've got summat special here!
