OVERVIEW: “The sense of exuberance at the sheer joy of being alive… a debut album of group chants and lush melodies” TheGuardian “Contemplative acoustic and melodically stomping indie folk… a beguiling debut” Metro Taking the US by storm and catching the attention of everyone from M Ward to Frank Black, Port O’Brien arrive in the UK with their debut single, the joyously raucous ‘I Woke Up Today’. The band will be supporting Bon Iver, Vetiver, The Dodos and Silver Jews in the UK starting next week. The crazily addictive single ‘I Woke Up Today’ (just try not jumping in on that chorus) is already getting plays on UK radio by Mark Radcliffe and sessions booked at Xfm and BBC 6 Music. This is a very special debut offering, Sea-faring Californians Port O’Brien have been, ahem, making waves since the summer 2007 compilation of previously self-released songs titled The Wind and The Swell made them a Pitchfork favourite, catching critics’ attention when M Ward named Port O’Brien his ‘new favourite band’ and ‘I Woke Up Today’ the best track he heard all year. “The energy was there and the songs were there… two really simple things that you don’t get very often,” Ward astutely noted.
