Madam is a lady called Sukie Smith, who I'm predisposed to because her name sounds a bit like my surname. This here is a 4-track EP called 'Fall On Your Knees', imagine a kind of quieter, folkier PJ Harvey and you won't be too far off. On first listen it sounded to me like fairly mundane downbeat singer-songwriter stuff but second time around I warmed to it a lot, there's a hint of weirdness and darkness to it that I like. She's got a really nice voice too. 'Not Here Yet' is my favourite of the bunch with its spooky sounds which could very easily sound totally comical but instead really make the song work. Good stuff.. Plus red shoes with a black outfit are a cool combo.

What their label says...
Released to coincide with Madam’s Summer festival performances and the premiere of feature film ‘Hush Your Mouth’, an ‘anti-thriller’ perfectly scored by Madam’s music, complementing the film’s violent and masculine energy with her fragile and emotional vocals, heartfelt waltzes and tear-stained laments. Directed by Tom Tyrwhitt, ‘Hush Your Mouth’ is playing at European Film Festivals over the next few months and Madam will be joining the tour for shows in the Czech Republic – the first to 2000 music and film fans at an open air concert. ‘Hush Your Mouth’ features the debut performance from Khalid Abdalla, who has gone on to star in ‘The Kite Runner’.
