About us

You only really need to know three things about Norman Records...

We love vinyl

We're all about music in its physical form. Not downloads.

We love our customers

Great prices, speedy delivery, friendly staff and a simple website.

Above all, we love music

Especially if it's independent, interesting, and forward-thinking.

But we know some of you like to know a bit more, so here are the Top 10 facts about Norman Records...

  1. We've been trading since 1996.
  2. After several years in Armley (in Leeds, UK) we are now based in Holbeck (in Leeds, UK). Our address is Unit 20, Croydon House, Croydon Street, Leeds, LS11 9RT.
  3. Started by Phil on his lonesome, we now have a team of eight people (Phil, Brian, Business Lady, Clinton, Kim, Mike, Ant and Nathon) maintaining the site, adding new content, making sure your orders reach you quickly and safely, and answering your queries.
  4. We are, always have always been, and always will be truly independent. We offer a genuine alternative to mainstream outlets and the boring corporate-sponsored "indie" establishment. (You won't catch us taking part in the Workfare scheme, or stocking crappy records just because the big labels are pushing them.)
  5. We source our records from all over the world, dealing with exotic (and often flaky) distributors and labels to get the best deal for you on high-quality, hard-to-find alternative and experimental records.
  6. We specialise in physical formats, particularly vinyl. We love CDs, tapes, and the odd weird novelty too. But downloads ain't our bag - we're not interested in selling computer files.
  7. We are always looking for interesting new artists to stock. If you think you're good enough, just drop us a line at phil@normanrecords.com.
  8. If you're in the UK and you order more than £50-worth of records, we'll chuck in free postage. We're nice like that. And since we're all vinyl nuts ourselves we try to go the extra mile when packing to make sure your records reach you in the same condition they left us.
  9. The Norman Records cat is called Gordon. She is three years old (writing in 2012) and has been with us since we adopted her at six months. The Norman Records ghost is called Cat. Gordon doesn't like him but to date he hasn't done anything malicious. However if you ever receive records from us that seem unusually cold to the touch, we expect that's Cat's handiwork.
  10. They're Maoam, not Haribo. Although Maoam are made by Haribo, we admit.
